Story

In ancient Lithuania, rural life was closely linked to agriculture. A major activity was the cultivation of flax, which required much more labor compared to other crops.

But the Lithuanians loved flax and used it not only as a material, but also for medicinal purposes. This appreciation gave rise to stories, games and songs that revolved around flax cultivation.

Special moments in the cultivation were celebrated with great parties. These ancient stories and traditions have been preserved to this day and are an important part of Lithuanian cultural history.

The addition

Flax farming was more than just an agricultural activity; it was a collaborative effort that involved everyone. While men took care of harvesting the flax stalks, it was the women's responsibility to comb and prepare the fibers. Linen was particularly important for young girls, as the plant accompanied them on their way to marriage.

In Lithuania, it was unthinkable to hold important celebrations without linen - be it an engagement, wedding, baptism or other family celebration. Lithuanians decorated their homes with linen, and it was the preferred gift on important occasions. Festive tables were set with immaculate white linen tablecloths, while checkered or striped linen cloths were used in everyday life. But flax not only accompanied joyful moments - it also played an important role at funerals.
