Gansey sweaters also known as Guernseys originated in England in the 19th century as sturdy garments for hard-working fishermen.

Typical are dense, dark yarns, lush patterns of right and left stitches, overlapping shoulders and gussets, which allow the wearer additional freedom of movement.
